Melanie Dubis Named Among N.C. Lawyers Weekly’s 2011 Leaders in the Law

(RALEIGH, N.C.)—Melanie Black Dubis, a partner in the Raleigh office of Parker Poe, was named a recipient of the 2011 Leaders in the Law award by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. The award was created to spotlight individuals within the legal community who are working to better the legal profession through mentoring and involvement in their communities. Ms. Dubis was recognized at a special awards ceremony in Raleigh on September 22.

Ms. Dubis handles commercial disputes for clients in North Carolina state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and arbitration proceedings. She advises and represents corporate and individual clients in unfair and deceptive trade practices and trade secret litigation, securities litigation and intellectual property litigation. Ms. Dubis has also represented more than 15 accounting firms, including Big Four firms, securities broker/dealers and other financial services professionals in litigation and arbitrations alleging negligence, negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty and securities fraud.

Ms. Dubis serves as Chairman of the Carolina Ballet’s Board of Directors and has served as Pro Bono General Counsel for the Alliance of AIDS Services since 2001. Additionally, Ms. Dubis is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Quality of Life committee and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. She received her JD from Vanderbilt University and her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
