Four Parker Poe Attorneys Awarded Lawyer of the Year

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)Best Lawyers has named four Parker Poe attorneys as Lawyers of the Year for 2013.

  • Catharine Biggs Arrowood was named Raleigh Best Lawyers Antitrust Law Lawyer of the Year.
  • Donald P. Ubell was named Charlotte Best Lawyers Public Finance Law Lawyer of the Year.
  • Keith M. Weddington was named Charlotte Best Lawyers Employment Law - Management Lawyer of the Year.
  • W. Samuel Woodard was named Best Lawyers Charlotte Litigation - Real Estate Lawyer of the Year.

Only one lawyer in each specialty is named “Lawyer of the Year” within a market. The designation is based on recognition from fellow lawyers in each area and specialty.

Ms. Arrowood litigates and arbitrates for both large and small businesses and has considerable experience with regulated companies. She focuses on resolving problems that threaten the viability of a business. Her clients have included educational institutions, utilities, insurance companies, accounting and law firms, health care and biotech firms, banks and commercial aerospace companies.

Mr. Ubell has practiced primarily in the areas of traditional general obligation, certificates of participation and revenue bonds for more than 25 years. He has principal responsibility for Parker Poe’s work as bond counsel and special counsel on North Carolina governmental and nonprofit issues. Mr. Ubell serves as bond counsel for a number of  cities and counties throughout North Carolina and has also served as bond counsel in more than ten states and as underwriter's counsel for every major investment banking firm.

Mr. Weddington concentrates his practice in employment law and has extensive experience representing employers in a variety of disputes with employees and former employees. He frequently lectures and participates in seminars on employment law and has written numerous articles on employment law topics and compliance issues. Mr. Weddington serves as chair of Parker Poe's Regulatory Department.

Mr. Woodard has extensive experience in representing large lending institutions in commercial real estate financing transactions, including syndicated lending and in commercial lending transactions. He has represented a number of major commercial real estate developers and lenders in the development and financing of several large real estate projects. Mr. Woodard also serves as general counsel to a number of the Firm's corporate clients.
