(COLUMBIA, SC) – Families who come to the Family Shelter in Columbia for a safe roof over their heads now can sleep a little easier, thanks to an annual charity celebration by the Parker Poe law firm.

The Parker Poe Annual Give Back Event was held Thursday, Jan. 15, at City Art in the Vista. This year, Parker Poe and its attorneys provided four full mattress sets and two twin mattress sets to the shelter, new bedding that Jeffers McGill sold to the firm at cost.

Attendees also donated 73 sheet sets, 27 pillows and pillowcases, 17 comforters, 13 mattress covers and more than 150 towels and washcloths and other items that help make life a little more clean and cozy for those who turn to the Family Shelter in their time of crisis.

Established in 1979, the Family Shelter is the only agency in the Midlands that provides emergency shelter services to homeless children and their families.

“It’s easy to take for granted the simple things most of us keep in our linen closets and reach for without a second thought. Because of the generous support of Parker Poe attorneys and their friends, we’re better able to extend that feeling to residents of the Family Shelter,” said Penny Delaney Cothran, President, Family Shelter Board of Directors.

The event marked the sixth straight year of partnership between the Family Shelter and Parker Poe Columbia.
