Charlotte, NC— Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, a business law firm known for its corporate, litigation, and regulatory practices, held the fourth session of its internal “Mini-MBA” program, an ongoing business education initiative for its more than 200 attorneys, paralegals and senior administration. This month’s program featured former NBA star Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues presenting “Organizational Behavior:  Being a Team Player in a Business Environment.”

Bogues spent four years at Wake Forest University on the men’s basketball team, where he was the ACC career leader in steals and assists. He then went on to be picked 12th overall in the 1987 NBA draft and had a 13-year career in the league, predominately with the Charlotte Hornets, where he played for ten seasons.

After a successful NBA career, Bogues began work in Charlotte with his nonprofit, Always Believe, Inc., an organization that builds leadership skills and mentors at-risk youth while giving them the opportunity to be part of MB1 Amateur Athletic Union.

Bogues delivered a motivational speech to more than 100 participants across seven offices. As the shortest player in NBA history, Bogues overcame obstacles on and off the court. Bogues spoke on his experiences he had through his journey in the NBA. He reiterated the importance of team work, accountability for one’s actions and successful team building – in business, basketball, and life.

Bogues was a natural fit to lead a “Mini-MBA” course on Organizational Behavior. He inspired the law firm with his relentless work ethic, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to team and believing in oneself. Bogues shared, “Success against the best puts you as the best. You never know who’s watching, so always give 110%.”

The yearlong Parker Poe “Mini-MBA” program kicked off in April with an interactive session led by Timothy B. Corcoran on the economics of law and understanding corporate finances. The program includes guest lectures and group dialogue throughout the year on a variety of topics relating to success in business. Each session is streamed live across Parker Poe’s seven offices throughout the Southeast to educate attorneys and senior administration on best practices for business. The program will continue next month with a session on Buying Legal Services.

“Feedback from our corporate clients tell us that they value the skills that result from a law degree combined with the enhanced knowledge of business administration,” said Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer Kristen Leis. “Our internal “Mini-MBA” program is the result of responding to our clients in order to offer, and deliver, the best possible service for them to be successful.”
