Nine Parker Poe Attorneys Recognized as "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers

Catharine B. Arrowood, Arbitration, Raleigh, NC

Catharine Arrowood litigates and arbitrates for both large and small businesses and has considerable experience with regulated companies. She focuses on resolving problems that threaten the viability of a business. Ms. Arrowood is recognized by Chambers USA as a Band 1 practitioner in Litigation: General Commercial, the first woman to achieve this ranking in North Carolina. Catharine received her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. In addition, Catharine has been recognized as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Raleigh, NC in Antitrust Law, 2013, 2016; Arbitration, 2015, Litigation - Antitrust, 2014; and Bet-the-Company Litigator of the Year, 2009.

Chip Holmes, Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants & Product Liability Litigation – Defendants, Charlotte, NC

Chip Holmes, a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law, has a diverse litigation practice, including defense of monetary damages claims in civil court, professional liability defense - particularly medical malpractice, business disputes, insurance litigation, premises liability litigation and defense of professionals before state licensing boards. He has more than twenty years of experience in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation. In addition, Chip has been recognized as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Charlotte, NC in Medical Malpractice Law - Defendants, 2016 and Insurance Law, 2015.

Steven B. Long, Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, Raleigh, NC

Steve Long advises businesses and individuals regarding tax and employee benefits issues. He has extensive experience working with employers in banking, retail, technology and other industries to establish, maintain and correct defects in the operation of tax-qualified retirement plans, executive compensation agreements, stock incentive plans and other employee benefits. Steve received his J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University.

Charles C. Meeker, Litigation Municipal, Raleigh, NC

Charles Meeker represents private and public clients including local governments in civil trials and administrative hearings. Charles served as the mayor of Raleigh, NC from 2001-2011 and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Roy L. “Skip” Smart III, Mergers & Acquisitions Law, Charlotte, NC

Skip Smart provides seasoned transactional advice and corporate counseling to both private and public companies. He has an extensive mergers and acquisitions practice, and regularly advises clients in auction-type acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, leveraged acquisitions and related financings, and roll-up and build-up strategies, including techniques for the efficient and cost-effective completion of serial industry-specific acquisitions. Skip graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law.

E. Tyler Smith, Public Finance Law, Greenville, SC

Tyler Smith’s practice focuses in the areas of both public and business finance as well as government and public policy. He has significant experience serving various financial institutions in the Southeast and borrowers in relation to conventional loans, letters of credit, taxable and tax-advantaged financings such as bond issues and deals eligible for other beneficial tax treatment. Tyler graduated from Duke University with a dual Masters and J.D.

S. Rogers Warner, Jr., Health Care Law, Charlotte, NC

Rogers Warner has more than 25 years of experience representing clients in the health care industry, specializing in mergers, acquisitions and other business ventures. He also regularly advises clients on regulatory compliance matters. Rogers graduated from UNC School of Law.

Keith M. Weddington, Litigation - Labor and Employment, Charlotte, NC

Keith Weddington, a graduate of  UNC School of Law, has been representing employers for more than 25 years and has defended Fortune 500 and middle-market companies in a broad array of disputes with employees and former employees. In addition, Keith has been recognized as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Charlotte, NC in Litigation - Labor and Employment in 2015 and Employment Law – Management in 2013 and 2016.

Stacy K. Wood, Employment Law – Management, Charlotte, NC

Stacy Wood practices in the Employment & Labor group and has been defending employers and educational institutions successfully for more than 20 years, with a focus on discrimination, harassment and ERISA litigation. Stacy received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
