Adam Setzer is a litigator who helps corporate clients resolve business disputes, navigate class actions, and defend unfair trade practices claims. He has represented Fortune 500 companies and a range of other clients in state and federal courts. He has experience with large, complex cases, including those involving product liability and mass torts. He is skilled at working through technical scientific and medical issues and explaining their bottom-line significance in a case.

Prior to joining Parker Poe, Adam worked for one of the 50 largest law firms in the country. He earned his law degree from Wake Forest, where he was a member of the Wake Forest Law Review's editorial staff and served on the executive council for the moot court. He received his undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Representative Experience

  • Obtained a dismissal for a corporate defendant in a Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) putative class action based on claims related to consumer solicitation.
  • Defended a maritime tort claim in federal court and successfully argued for motions that resulted in a favorable settlement.
  • Represented a limited liability company and officer in an internal business dispute related to a shareholder claim and other allegations in North Carolina Business Court.
  • Assisted in the defense of a Fortune 500 financial services provider in the aftermath of a major Ponzi scheme orchestrated by a broker indirectly connected to the company. This casework involved management of a large-scale document review.
  • Defended a consumer loan provider in multiple arbitrations related to pricing and lending practices regulated under state usury laws. The arbitrations involved cross-border transactions with consumers from different states and questions of jurisdiction.
  • Defended large and midsize companies in nearly 200 product liability cases.
  • Defended a third-party insurance action.
  • Represented a small corporation pursuing collections.
  • Provided counseling for debtors-in-possession navigating bankruptcy.
  • Conducted pre-trial discovery in commercial construction matters.
