Nemonie Nooks focuses her practice on education and employment law. She advises educational institutions on compliance with federal civil rights laws and regulations that impact K-12 schools and colleges and universities.
Nemonie's practice is informed by her experience working as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Education, where she investigated civil rights complaints and provided legal guidance to the department's leaders and employees. Before that, she was an assistant district attorney in Cobb and Fulton counties in Georgia. In those roles, she reviewed, investigated, and prosecuted criminal cases. Nemonie also previously was a law clerk for the Tennessee State University’s office of the general counsel, where she drafted memoranda on university legal issues to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and researched university issues related to Title IX, Title VII, and other federal laws. Nemonie held the same role for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
Nemonie earned a bachelor's degree from Georgia State University, where she was a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor. She earned a law degree from Vanderbilt University, where she was a volunteer with Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands.
