Charlotte, NC – Parker Poe is pleased to announce that Will Cannon, a partner in the firm’s Raleigh office, has received recognition from the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) for his pro bono work related to intellectual property (IP). On April 28, Will was presented with the 2016-2017 Outstanding Achievement Pro Bono Award for the NCBA IP Section at its annual meeting in Wilmington, North Carolina. This award distinguishes the exceptional pro bono efforts carried out by IP Section members over the course of a year.
Will focuses his practice in the areas of technology contracts, trademarks, privacy, and other intellectual property rights, and he is an N.C. Bar Board-certified trademark specialist. Will is also the leader of Parker Poe’s education industry team. His IP work for clients translates to the pro bono work he does for various nonprofit organizations and early-stage entrepreneurs.
Throughout 2016, Will sought out organizations in the community whose missions coincide with issues he is passionate about. Will’s dedicated interest in the distribution of fresh food to impoverished areas of the state led to his trademark protection work with community-based organizations who aim to combat hunger and provide whole foods for North Carolinians, such as the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Sow Much Good. He has also worked with nonprofits that provide assistance and support to women, such as Carroll’s Kitchen and Pretty in Pink, as well as ecological conservation groups.
According to Katherine Ross, chair of Parker Poe’s Pro Bono Committee, “Will's extensive knowledge of IP law is not only valuable to our clients, but also to our community. His commitment and dedication to pro bono work exemplify the core values of Parker Poe. “
