Michael Goldsticker was quoted in Law360's analysis of the top criminal and civil trials in North Carolina during 2024.
Michael offered context related to a $22 million tax fraud scheme in which a federal judge found two tax attorneys and an insurance agent guilty of perpetuating the scheme.
Michael noted that while "run-of-the-mill tax evasion is much easier to detect," more complex schemes like this tend to have "farther reaching consequences and larger loss amounts" that require substantial government resources to uncover.
"Courts accordingly are far harsher towards these more sophisticated schemes," he told Law360.
