Raleigh, NC – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that Nana Asante-Smith has been named to the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Commission as one of two City of Durham representatives. The eight-member Airport Authority board is responsible for governing the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Nana’s appointment to the authority was approved by a Durham City Council vote.

The Airport Authority was established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1939 to develop, operate, and maintain RDU. The airport served more than 15 million passengers in 2024 and today serves nearly 20 major airlines. It has undergone a number of upgrades over the past two decades, including a new $40 million terminal area parking garage, new and expanded terminals and concessions, and other projects including works of art and added airline services to meet the Triangle region’s future demand for aviation.

As a member of the Airport Authority board, Nana will provide oversight for a $524 million operating budget that the board approved in March. RDU is also following a 25-year master plan called Vision 2040 previously approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2017 to invest in infrastructure and open the door to greater economic impact by connecting the airport to the region and the globe.

At Parker Poe, Nana is a business litigator who represents public sector clients as well as businesses in industries such as financial services, health care, manufacturing, and education. She has litigated a variety of complex contract disputes and, in addition, has conducted internal investigations and represented clients in government investigations.

Nana is committed to serving her community and her fellow attorneys. She currently serves on the Durham YMCA’s advisory board and as an advisory member of the North Carolina State Bar.

Nana’s term on the Airport Authority runs through January 2027.
