Nina Gupta and Suzann Wilcox provided insights for school districts on navigating the office for Civil Rights (OCR) under the new presidential administration during the Council of School Attorneys (COSA) Spring Law Seminar in Atlanta.

Nina and Suzann examined shifts in enforcement priorities, investigation protocols, and guidance from the OCR. Since school districts are often at the forefront of OCR complaints related to discrimination, disability rights, and other civil rights issues, it is key for districts to understand OCR’s evolving stance. Nina and Suzann’s presentation focused on how this understanding is critical to anticipating enforcement trends and adapting compliance strategies accordingly.

Nina and Suzann also presented on Title IX compliance and First Amendment considerations for school boards. This year’s seminar also included Parker Poe attorneys presenting on safeguarding student data and the impact of recent federal litigation on school districts

COSA’s seminar brought together school attorneys from across the country for presentations and legal education on current law and litigation affecting public schools. COSA is part of the National School Boards Association.
